5 Ways to Celebrate Spring

I am so excited to write this blog post!

I love when Spring comes barreling towards us. Winter is tough for me. I hate the cold winter nights, and the fact that after New Year’s Day there isn’t a lot to look forward to. Living in the northeast, Spring is definitely a tricky season. We are known for getting early April snowstorms around here, and luckily it looks like that won’t be happening this year.

I thought of my five favorite things to do in the Spring, and thought I would share them with you. There are so many activities that I love to do when the temperatures get warmer, that it was hard picking only five.

Go to a Wildflower Field

This is something that has been on my list for awhile. I love going to wildflower fields, and it is even better when I can pick the flowers. There is an entire field of bluebells about 10 minutes from my house, and I always go there when they bloom. It is a popular spot for photographers and I love stopping by on my way home to go for a walk or just to enjoy the scenery.

Go for a Walk

This is probably the thing I miss the most in the winter. I love going for walks. Whether it is going around my neighborhood after work, or driving to a park, walking is one of my favorite springtime activities. I cannot wait for when the weather warms up and I can put on my sneakers and spend an hour or two alone, with my headphones blaring of course.

Read a book (outside)

I am a book nerd to my very core. I always have a book in my purse just in case I have some extra down time throughout the day. My husband makes fun of me because I can go through 2 or 3 novels a week. Bookstores are my favorite place to be. On our honeymoon my husband and I went to Vermont and I made it my mission to stop at a bookstore in every town we went to.

There are two books that I am really excited about reading this spring:

The first is a book of poetry for and about women. I cannot wait to crack this one open. The second one is about Ernest Hemmingway and his wife Martha. I am such a sucker for historical romance novels, it really is a sickness.

Plant an Herb Garden

So this is more of a late Spring activity, but I love gardening so I figured I would add this to my list. One of the very first things I plant are herbs. I love using them in salads, dressings and more recently mixed drinks! Rosemary is a favorite of mine, and it goes really well with blackberries in a sangria or even mixed with some alcoholic lemonade. Most herbs are very easy to take care of, and even do well on windowsills. I have even planted them in mason jars before. Just add some rocks to the bottom, some soil and the herb. Stay tuned in the next couple of months I am going to have some gardening ideas that are really easy to create!

Have a picnic

When the weather gets warmer I try and eat as many meals as I possibly can outside. We have a little deck out back that we eat at most nights, but I really love grabbing some sandwiches and some iced tea and heading to the local park to eat. My husband and I have even taken a hike to a waterfall close to us to have a picnic. It is an inexpensive, fun Spring activity that is perfect for couples or even families.

I hope you enjoyed my little preview to Spring. As always, use the #unlockedcolors to let me know what you are up to. I would love to see your photos of the fun things you are doing and creating.
