Seed Starting for Beginners

Life has been weird lately hasn't it? I have been thinking a lot about things that bring me joy. I love gardening. I have learned a lot from my Mom and Grandmother when I was younger about what to plant, how to plant it and when the best time to start is.
I wanted to share with you a pretty inexpensive, but fun activity that you can share with your family.
Seed starting.
I love planting vegetables and herbs during the summer months. It brings me great joy to be able to walk out onto my back deck and pick some basil or parsley for dinner, or be able to eat tomatoes right off the vine. I usually go to my local nursery and purchase plants, and plant them around the middle of May. This year, I wanted to try something different.
I was walking in the store saw a bunch of seeds in the aisle. I have a lot of extra time on my hands so I thought it would be fun to grab some seeds, a seed starting tray, and some soil and try my hand at growing seedlings.
It was a really fun Sunday morning of filling up the trays, spreading the seeds and of course lettering the names of the plants onto the trays.
The best part of this, is that you get to watch the seedlings grow. It really makes my day to see the little seeds start to sprout. I have a pretty good routine going, and I love the structure that it gives me during the day.
All you need to start is:
Soil. I urge you to splurge on getting some really good potting soil with fertilizer in it. Trust me, it will make the difference.
Seed packets. I would try easy things such as tomatoes, onions, herbs and lettuce. I did get some chamomile plants and I am really excited to see those flowers grow and turn them into tea!
A seed starting tray. You can use anything from egg shells, to toilet paper rolls to create a seed starter. I bought a tray for about $10 that had a lid on it. So far it has been worth the investment.
If you follow me on Instagram I am going to show my progress in my stories, so come over and check it out!
