Snow Day DIY

This past weekend the east coast got hit with a pretty intense winter storm. Luckily in my neck of the woods we didn’t get the amounts that they were calling for, but it was still the perfect time for a new DIY project.
I received these wooden signs as a Christmas present and have been itching to do something with them.I love being able to take something and turn it into something completely different. My original thought for these signs were to just paint them and use them in my home office to label some of my art supplies, but then I go to thinking. Why not string them together and create an inspirational sign??
I put a base coat of white on the signs since the red was pretty harsh and I planned on using a pastel color. After they were dry I used an acrylic mint colored paint and put about three coats on each. I then took some gold paint and used that to distress it a little bit. I mean who doesn’t like rustic? I let them sit overnight to dry.
These wooden signs came from the dollar aisle at Target (my step daughter knows me so well). I went to my second favorite store, the dollar store, to get some ribbon to connect the three signs together. I got a really pretty lace, but any type of ribbon will work here. I used a staple gun, to attach the ribbon to the back of the signs one on top of the other. This way they can hang down from each other.
Finally, I wanted to add some type of quote to these signs. I have a really great board on Pinterest for quotes and other words to live by that I use a lot for inspiration for my lettering. I used “CHOOSE TO SHINE” because I had a plan to add this to my motivational wall in my bedroom. I am a firm believer of the the law of attraction and feel that by surrounding yourself with positive affirmations and your goals can really change your outlook on life.
I am pretty excited by the final outcome of this little DIY project. Even though the snow storm turned into a rain storm, I still had a blast brainstorming and creating this little wall sign. It amazes me how a couple of dollar items, paint and some imagination can create something so wonderful.
Let me know what creative things you guys are up to! As always, use the #unlockedcolors to let me see see all the wonderful things you are creating.
